Before 1967, school children from Binanowan were studying at Nabonton Elementary School. Lives of pupils were at stake because of great distance between the two barangays, not to mention the grassy trail where snakes thrived and could strike anytime, and the crossing through river that many lives were wasted especially during rainy seasons. With the problems and dangers encountered by the inhabitants, the Barangay officials work out a scheme to have an elementary school in their barangay. They sought the assistance of some politicians and benefactors from Guinobatan, Albay. It was 1967 when congresswoman josefina Duran donated an amount of two thousand pesos (Php. 2,000.00) for the purchase of a parcel of lot (5000 sq.m.) which will be used as school site. Determined to realize their vision and aspirations for their children’s welfare to attain proper education. They were able to construct a concrete PTA school building even without the aid from the National Government. Miss Milagros Cañon was the first teacher then, handling the first batch of pupils in Grade 1. At present the school has six (6) classrooms utilized by the six grade level only. Kindergarten utilizes makeshift classroom through the cooperation and support of the Barangay officials and PTA officers. |
